Ho conosciuto Simonetta Ferrante verso la fine degli anni Sessanta a
Milano, anni indimenticabili per il design italiano e soprattutto
milanese...
...Ammiravo molto Simonetta, perché ancora molto giovane aveva
saputo imporsi tra questo gruppo di titani della grafica italiana...
...Aveva capito come pochi altri l'importanza dell'internazionalità
studiando per due anni a Londra alla Central School of Arts and
Crafts, dove apprese un uso informale e più espressivo dei caratteri
e una maggiore semplicità e spontaneità, pur sempre unite a una
grande attenzione per il dettaglio...
...Non è stata una sorpresa per me, tornando dalle mie lunghe
parentesi americane, scoprire che Simonetta si è poi data
all'insegnamento della pittura. Il graphic design traduce
creativamente idee e parole in immagini per comunicare con gli altri.
L'arte invece è una continua ricerca verso la comunicazione con se
stessi. Probabilmente questo bisogno di introspezione ha spinto
Simonetta ad abbandonare il design dopo 25 anni di attività per
dedicarsi completamente all'arte....
...Dalle sue ultime opere traspare il desiderio di fondere
armoniosamente le sue esperienze. Il segno della disciplina
calligrafica si integra infatti felicemente con l'espressione
informale più istintiva raggiungendo quell'equilibrio che Simonetta
constantemente ricerca.

I met Simonetta Ferrante at the end of the 1960s in Milan, memorable
years for Italian design, especially in Milan....

she had succeeded in establishing herself in this group of Titans of
Italian graphic design...
